We are well and truly into spring! Most gardens will be a colour showcase with masses of flowering azaleas, bulbs and annuals. Combined with the new leaves on deciduous trees, there is a real air of freshness in the garden. It's a great pleasure to just sit and sip on a cup of tea (or better still a good red wine) at the end of the day. November Gardening Tips

We are heading into summer although we haven’t seen much of the warmer weather yet with all the rain on the East Coast and further West. Rain is of course good for our gardens but it can bring problems. Excessive rain can leach out fertiliser particularly from sandy soils and it is at this time of the growing cycle that plants need their fertiliser so consider giving them a top up. December Gardening Tips

With summer here we can expect that inevitable hot weather which is not always good for our gardens but which can be managed with a few simple tips. It's good to see that water restrictions have been lifted (or reduced) due to the recent rain. Don’t be fooled though, a few hot days and the soil will begin to dry out. If there is one simple tip for the summer garden, it’s mulch. Mulch retains the soil moisture and improves the soil structure as it breaks down, providing a safe haven for worms and good bugs. If possible, use mulch that has been aged and not too fresh - fresh mulch will rob your soil of available nitrogen.

Well summer is here and so is the rain - a bit too much of it for many of us. The good thing about plants is that they almost always revive! Damaged plants can be cut back, fertilised and they will shoot out again - there is still plenty of good growing weather.
